Guide to Joining the  US Army

Eligibility Requirements

To join the Air Force, you must be a U.S. citizen between the ages of 17 and 39. You must also have a high school diploma or equivalent, and you must pass a physical and mental examination.

Take the ASVAB

The Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) is a standardized test that measures your aptitude for various military jobs. Your ASVAB score will help you determine which Air Force jobs you are eligible for.

Meet with a Recruiter

The recruiter will help you choose a job, answer your questions, and guide you through the application process.

Enlist

White Line

Once you have chosen a job and met all the requirements, you will enlist in the Air Force. This will officially make you a member of the military.

Attend Basic Military Training

BMT is a 8.5-week course that will teach you the basic skills you need to be an Airman. 

Choose a career field

After BMT, you will choose a career field. There are over 130 different Air Force career fields, so you will have plenty of options to choose from.

Attend Technical Training

Once you have chosen a career field, you will attend technical training. This is where you will learn the skills you need to perform your job. 

Start your Career

After technical training, you will be assigned to your first duty station. This is where you will put your skills to use and start your Air Force career.

Be Physically Fit

White Line

The Air Force has strict physical fitness standards. If you're not physically fit, you may not be able to join the Air Force.

Be Mentally Tough

White Line

The Air Force is a demanding organization. If you're not mentally tough, you may not be able to handle the rigors of military life.
